Write for Us

Marlin’s Journal accepts freelance pitches from experienced journalists, subject-matter experts, and writers with a distinctive voice. We pay competitive rates — starting at $0.75 CAD per word for reported features and $500 flat for essays and analysis pieces.

Before you pitch, read a few of our articles to understand our tone and approach. We don’t publish listicles, “how to make money online” content, AI-generated material, or anything that’s been published elsewhere. We want original reporting, sharp analysis, and genuine expertise.

A good pitch includes:

  • A clear, specific thesis — what’s the one thing you want the reader to take away?
  • Why this story matters right now
  • Who you’ll interview or what sources you’ll use
  • Links to 2-3 examples of your previous published work
  • Your estimated word count and timeline

We aim to respond to pitches within two weeks. If you haven’t heard back after fourteen days, feel free to follow up once. We read every submission.

Do you have information that the public should know about? We take story tips seriously and we protect our sources.

For sensitive communications, we recommend using Signal. Contact us by email first and we’ll provide our Signal number. Please do not send us information you are not legally authorized to share — but if you believe a story is in the public interest, we want to hear from you.

Corrections

We take accuracy seriously. If you spot an error in our reporting, please let us know immediately.
